Female Pediatric Dentists

The most recent volume of the Journal of "Pediatric Dentistry" Vol. 28, No. 5, September/October 2006 had a study of pediatric dentistry program applicants and pediatric dentistry residents. It found that the quality of applicants is increasing and that the proportion of female pediatric dental residents is rising as well. In fact, of pediatric dentistry applicants (those that have graduated dental school and are applying to a residency), almost 60% are female!

Is residency required to complete dental school?

  2. See my other posts on dental school for more info. but, basically, in the US, 4 years of dental school to become a dentist. If you wish to specialize, then at least two more years of "residency" or post graduate training. However, a residency is not required to begin practice after dental school.

  5. A new tooth can often be seen immediately after the baby tooth falls out, but also it can be up to 6 months after you loose a baby tooth before you see the new one. Not uncommon. Still, if you are not sure get your dentist to take a look.

My daughter's dentist says she needs fillings between her teeth due to drinking juice but she's only 4 YRS old. Do you think she requires fillings?

  9. Probably they have Nu-Smile crowns that have a little metal rim that sometimes show through--or they have old or new decay at the margin of white crowns or fillings. I don't know.

Read more here about crowns here

Also there is a lot here on the blog about treating young children.
