I have a question that was not addressed in a previous post/comment. 1)Will extracting a top front tooth that may be infected leave the remaining teeth more vulnerable to future injury? My daughter is 19 mos & her tooth was badly chipped. 6 wks later, the xray looks good & the tooth has great color, however there is redness & swelling on the outer gum. 2)How long can extraction safely be postponed with antibiotic? 3)Local anesthetic & papoose board sounds like TORTURE, so should I press for anesthesia? 4)If so, why not just do a root canal & crown??? THANKS!
You are asking a number of questions that are very individual patient/case dependant. I general, the removal of an abscessed baby tooth will help the developing tooth-antibiotics buy time (usually a few weeks) but do not cure. There are not easy quick answers in these situations. I would ask your pediatric dentist what course of action is best for you. I do think there is lots of info here on the blog-like info on sedation and behavior that you may find informative. It is a little hard to find as the blog has gotten so large. Good luck.
At my dentist office, they always explain the procedure and what is going on before doing anything. They do a really great job and I appreciate their ability to make me feel comfortable.
